Impact 25 (6/3)

For our impact 25 project, Josh and I set up a table in the cafeteria with a large sheet of watercolor paper and various art materials. We set up Prismacolor markers, red, yellow, and blue acrylic paint, a watercolor set, black ink, white out, and brushes. We also put out smaller pieces of scrap paper in case anyone wanted to practice using one of the materials. We asked participants to add one continuous line to the piece of paper. It could connect with another person's line, go over someone's line, or exist in a new space on the paper. After each participant, Josh drew their line digitally, and they could see how it looked as a digital interpretation. We varied the thickness and opacity of the lines on the computer based on the material the participant used and the thickness of their line.

It was interesting to see how people approached the project, since we mostly had non-art ed students and faculty participating. Most people chose the markers, perhaps because they're the most familiar and the cleanest. On the other hand, some participants got really excited to see all the material choices and went for the paint or black ink. Some people also made bold choices and put their line in the center or intersecting with many other lines while others kept their marks tight and in a small space on the page.
