The Glass Orchestra (9/1)

In my kitchen the other day I accidentally hit a glass against the side of my sink and thought the sound was really beautiful. So naturally, I started The Glass Orchestra - a group of mugs, cups, champagne flutes, shot glasses, and wine glasses who compose beats and rhythms for your listening pleasure. Enjoy!

  1. I love this. It is so inventful and creative. The use of everyday objects to create a piece of music is perfect. The beat is nice and the incorporation of different types of glasses is magical. It would be interesting to see this brought up in a classroom. I could see this done with 5-8th grade. Really depending on how you want to translate the lesson, it could be for a wider range of students. I wonder what it would be like to use different materials for the sounds and how that would turn out. This really is a great idea for a lesson or unit. It could even be integrated with the music teacher if there is one. If not, you could do it on your own. This would help students hear their world differently by recording sounds of everyday objects and creating a composition that reflects some type of mood or emotion.
